Elon Musk : Should Resign ?

Elon Musk polls his followers: ‘Should I step down as head of Twitter? (Resign)’

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, is pushing for a harder-driving culture at the company.

Amid ongoing controversies and concerns from advertisers, Elon Musk on Sunday asked his followers if he should step down as the head of Twitter.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk wrote.

It is unclear who might replace Musk or when he might step down, should he resign as head of the company, but Axios reported he told a Delaware judge last month he plans to reduce his time at Twitter “and find somebody else to run Twitter over time.”

Within 30 minutes of posting, the poll had received more than two million votes with the results slightly favoring Musk stepping down. At the time of publication, 56.7% of respondents voted ‘yes’ to Musk’s question.

In a separate tweet after creating the poll, Musk posted: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”

since taking over the social platform, Musk appears to have made multiple policy decisions via the results of user polls — including whether to unsuspend the account of former President Donald Trump and other users banned under the previous leadership and reinstate accounts of journalists who he said “doxxed” him by reporting on the location of his private jet.

Twitter has faced continued criticism, rising hate speech, an exodus of influential users and advertisers, and threats of international sanctions since Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition in October.

Musk and representatives for Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

After Elon Musk Ultimatum

After Elon Musk’s Ultimatum, mass exodus at TwitterHundreds of Twitter employees are estimated to be leaving the beleaguered social media company following an ultimatum from new owner Elon Musk.Synopsis: Elon Musk had spelled out an ultimatum to the tweeps that they will have to decide whether they want to stay on for ‘working long hours at high intensity or else they can take a severance package of three months’ pay.

Hundreds of Twitter employees are estimated to be leaving the company after Elon Musk mail demanded staff sign up for long hours.
As reported by Reuters, in a poll on the workplace app Blind, which verifies employees through their work email addresses and allows them to share information anonymously, 42 percent of 180 people chose the answer “Taking exit option, I’m free!”A quarter said they had chosen to stay “reluctantly,” and only 7 percent of the poll participants said that they “clicked yes to stay, I’m hardcore.”

Musk was meeting some top employees to try and convince them to stay, said one current employee and a recently departed employee who is in touch with Twitter colleagues.

While it is unclear how many employees have chosen to stay, the numbers highlight the reluctance of some staffers to remain at a company where Musk has hastened to fire half its employees including top management and is ruthlessly changing the culture to emphasize long hours and an intense pace.

Musk had spelled out an ultimatum to the tweeps that they will have to decide whether they want to stay on for “working long hours at high intensity” or else they can take a severance package of three months’ pay.

“Whatever decision you make, thank you for your efforts to make Twitter successful,” the message read.

In a message to the employees, Musk said that in order to build Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, extremely hardcore is required. “This will mean long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

In a private chat on Signal with about 50 Twitter staffers, nearly 40 said they had decided to leave, according to the former employee. And in a private Slack group for Twitter’s current and former employees, about 360 people joined a new channel titled “voluntary-layoff,” said a person with knowledge of the Slack group.

A separate poll on Blind asked staffers to estimate what percentage of people would leave Twitter based on their perception. More than half of respondents estimated at least 50% of employees would leave.

Blue hearts and salute emojis flooded Twitter and its internal chatrooms on Thursday, the second time in two weeks as Twitter employees said their goodbyes.

By 6 pm Eastern, over two dozen Twitter employees across the United States and Europe had announced their departures in public Twitter posts reviewed by Reuters, though each resignation could not be independently verified.

On Thursday evening, the version of the Twitter app used by employees began slowing down, according to one source familiar with the matter, who estimated that the public version of Twitter was at risk of breaking during the night. “If it does break, there is no one left to fix things in many areas,” the person said, who declined to be named for fear of retribution.

As the deadline approached, employees scrambled to figure out what to do. One team within Twitter decided to take the leap together and leave the company, one employee who is leaving told Reuters.

Since the takeover, it has been chaotic for two weeks for Twitter employees. And long hours have already become a norm in the company. Twitter laid off half of its workforce earlier this month shortly after Musk took control of the social media company. Then he rehired several employees noting that firing them was a mistake.

Twitter Shuts Offices

Twitter shuts offices after mass resignations. What it told employees

Synopsis: Twitter Inc announced it was temporarily closing its offices after Elon Musk issued employees an ultimatum.

Twitter Inc. on Thursday announced it was temporarily closing its offices after Elon Musk issued employees an ultimatum: Stay with the company “working long hours at high intensity” or quit with three months’ severance pay. The closure until Monday came after more workers than expected opted for the latter option, according to people familiar with the situation, causing confusion over who should still be allowed access to Twitter premises.

It’s a fresh blow for Musk, who laid off half the company’s workforce upon taking over, before having to ask some of them to return in order to build the platform he envisaged.

As Twitter’s internal communication channels filled with staff announcing their departure, Musk softened his earlier edict against working remotely. “All that is required for approval is that your manager takes responsibility for ensuring that you are making an excellent contribution,” he wrote in an email Thursday.

Topics related to the company trended in the US after the news, including #RIPTwitter, Twitter HQ, Apparently Twitter, and $44 billion, which was the price Musk paid for the social network business.

While it’s not clear how many of Twitter’s already-decimated staff took Musk up on his offer, the newest round of departures means the platform is continuing to lose workers just as it is gearing up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. one of the busiest events on Twitter that can overwhelm its systems if things go haywire.

Since taking over Twitter less than three weeks ago, Musk has booted half of the company’s full-time staff of 7,500 and an untold number of contractors responsible for content moderation and other crucial efforts. He fired top executives on his first day as Twitter’s owner, while others left voluntarily in the ensuing days. Earlier this week, he began firing a small group of engineers who took issue with him publicly or in the company’s internal Slack messaging system.

Below is the memo the company sent out to staff announcing the office closure:

Hi, Effective immediately, we are temporarily closing our office buildings and all badge access will be suspended. Offices will reopen on Monday, November 21st.

Thank you for your flexibility. Please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere.

We look forward to working with you on Twitter’s exciting future.

Twitter staff have been told to work 84-hour weeks

According to reports, Twitter employees have been pushed to work 84-hour weeks and bosses have slept at the office over the weekend in order to meet Elon Musk’s strict deadlines.

Twitter employees have been working far longer hours than usual since Elon Musk came on board, according to CNBC. This comes as employees face the prospect of layoffs as part of the internet mogul’s planned makeover of the company.

Twitter administrators have forced certain employees to work 12-hour shifts seven days a week – 84 hours a week — to meet Elon Musk’s targets, according to CNBC, citing internal correspondence.

Musk’s $44 billion purchase of the social networking platform was completed on Thursday evening, but concerns about layoffs at the company had been percolating for some time. It is unclear how many employees will be laid off and when, as well as which teams would be the most impacted.

Since Friday, employees have been assigned duties, which some regard as a test by Musk’s team to evaluate who works hard.

Insider has revealed that Elon Musk’s team handed some of Twitter’s engineers weekend coding tasks known as sprints. Other responsibilities include making significant improvements to Twitter’s verification process.

According to an internal communication sent to Twitter personnel working on adjustments to the company’s authentication procedure, “the expectation is basically to work 24/7 to get this out.”

According to CNBC, employees have not been told whether they will receive overtime pay, time off in lieu, or job security for working on the tasks.

Staff is concerned that if they do not complete their tasks by the early November deadlines, their careers at Twitter may be over, according to CNBC.

Meanwhile, Twitter’s managers have been ordered to conduct performance assessments and submit Musk’s team lists of which staff should be retained, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

However, the managers are feeling the pressure as well, with several telling The New York Times that they slept in Twitter’s headquarters on Friday and Saturday nights.

Twitter’s top executives were summoned to meetings with Musk and his team last week at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, where they were asked to detail their division’s work, according to two sources who attended the talks.

Some Twitter executives told the publication that they believed they were being evaluated.

According to the Washington Post, Musk’s team wants to fire off roughly a quarter of Twitter’s workforce in the initial round of layoffs, citing a person familiar with negotiations that took place at Twitter HQ last week.

Twitter did not react promptly to Insider’s request for comment on working hours, employees sleeping at work, and layoffs.

According to a Monday SEC filing, Musk abolished Twitter’s board of directors, consolidating his position as the company’s sole director.

Twitter to pay for bluetick: Elon Musk

Want your Twitter account to be verified? Consider reading this. According to reports, the microblogging site will charge users for verified accounts. The Verge said that the current price point for the new Blue subscription is $19.99 (or roughly $1,600). Twitter is owned by Elon Musk.

In 2021, Twitter Blue was introduced, giving users exclusive access to premium features like the ability to edit and undo tweets. According to the article, users would now have to subscribe to Twitter Blue in order to have their accounts verified. On the other hand, current Blue members will have 90 days to upgrade or risk losing their blue tick. Currently, a $4.99 Twitter Blue subscription is required.

According to The Verge’s source, staff working on the project were informed on Sunday that failing to launch the feature by the deadline of November 7 will result in their termination.

Elon Musk also acknowledged in a tweet that the entire verification procedure is now being reorganized. Musk responded to a user who asked for online assistance in verifying his Twitter account by saying, “The entire verification process is being overhauled right now.”

What does it imply if a Twitter account is verified?
The blue Verified symbol on Twitter lets users know that a public-interest account is legitimate, according to the help page. Your account must be well-known and active in order to be verified. Anyone can currently apply for Verification. The website divides well-known accounts into various categories. These include the following: the government, news outlets, journalists, businesses, companies, and organizations; the entertainment, sports, and gaming industries; activists and organizers; and content producers and powerful people.
