Cristiano Ronaldo

Will Cristiano Ronaldo play for Portugal at the next World Cup?

Will Cristiano Ronaldo play for Portugal at the next World Cup?

Is there any chance that CR7 could feature in the north American world cup in 2026?

The latter half of 2022 represented some of the rockiest waters that Cristiano Ronaldo has faced in his entire playing career.

First, he fell out with his manager – and seemingly everyone else above him at Man Utd – before losing his place as a regular starter for the Red Devils. Then he drafted in Piers Morgan, a well-known admirer of his, to conduct a tell-all interview which led to the termination of his contract.

After this, having assisted in taking Portugal to the last eight of the World Cup – overcoming tests from UruguayGhana and Switzerland in the process – CR7 crashed out of the tournament against Morocco.

He was pictured exiting the Al Thumama stadium in tears that night, which could well be the swan-song in Ronaldo’s five-tournament World Cup run.

But would it really be beyond the realms of possibility for Ronaldo to take to the stage one final time in CanadaMexico and the United StatesGOAL looks into what a Ronaldo appearance in four years’ time could entail.

How old would Cristiano Ronaldo be at the next World Cup?

To address the elephant in the room, Cristiano Ronaldo would be 41 by the time the next World Cup rolls around. The ex-Man Utd marksman was born on February 5 1985 and, at the 2022 World Cup, he was 37 years old.

Surprisingly, he didn’t make the top five oldest players at the 2022 World Cup. That same list did, however, feature his teammate Pepe who was the third oldest representative at 39 years of age. Former Barcelona full-back Dani Alves also trumped Ronaldo’s age, at 39.

A further four years would take Ronaldo into his 40s and could see him become one of the top five oldest players to ever turn out in a World Cup fixture if he remains a part of the Selecao.

Providing no players that are older than Ronaldo feature in 2026, he would become the joint fourth oldest player, alongside Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings, who also played at 41.

He would overtake England’s age record holder, Peter Shilton, who was 40 when he played at Italia 90.

The oldest attacking player to ever play in a World Cup is Roger Milla. At the spritely age of 42, the Cameroon legend played and netted at USA 94 versus Russia.

What has Cristiano Ronaldo said about his future?

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t retired from international football, although rumours have swirled around his future since he shared an emotional message on social media after losing to Morocco.

Ronaldo, who first represented his country in 2003, was followed by cameras as he walked towards his dressing room in tears following their shocking defeat to the Atlas Lions. He then took to social media after the event, stating that he “would never turn (his) back on (his) country.”

On Instagram, he posted: “Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career.”

“Fortunately, I won many titles of international dimension, including for Portugal, but putting our country’s name on the highest footing in the world was my biggest dream.

“I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream. In five appearances I scored in World Cups over 16 years, always by the side of great players and supported by millions of Portuguese people, I gave my all. I left it all out on the field. I never turned my face to the fight and I never gave up on that dream.

“Sadly yesterday the dream ended. It’s not worth reacting in the heat of the moment. I just want you all to know that much has been said, much has been written, and much has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed for a moment. I was always one fighting for the objective of all and I would never turn my back on my colleagues and my country.”

While it would be foolish to write a man who holds the joint record for the most international appearances (196), the prospect of a sixth World Cup appearance could be ambitious.

Ronaldo lost his place in the Man Utd first team at the start of the 2022-23 season, with only sporadic time on the pitch available to him. In a similar vein, CR7 has benched in Portugal’s knockout round 6-1 demolition of SwitzerlandGoncalo Ramos, the 21-year-old who replaced him, bagged a hat trick.

Against Morocco, he was only substituted onto the field of play in the 51st minute, with the game escaping the Selecao das Quinas.

Some might speculate that in four years’ time, even if he was still willing, Ronaldo’s powers could have waned to a point of non-selection for his beloved nation.

What has Cristiano Ronaldo achieved at the World Cup?

Ronaldo holds the world record for the number of goals scored internationally, with 118 goals in 196 appearances. He is also a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, the most recent of those coming in 2017.

His biggest achievement in a World Cup context will surely be the moment that he became the first men’s player in history to score at five World Cups.

The fourth-place finish he and his teammates achieved at the 2006 World Cup is more than likely the closest he will have come to getting his hands on the World Cup trophy.

Since that tournament, Portugal haven’t progressed further than the last eight and Ronaldo doesn’t have a World Cup knockout round goal to his name.

Needless to say, this is a fact that will only add fuel to Messi fans’ claim that the Argentine has out-performed Ronaldo in the 2022competition.

If he isn’t to appear in the North American World Cup in 2026, this trophy will be the only major piece of silverware that will have evaded him.

Argentina

World Cup final 2022: Argentina beat France

World Cup final 2022: Argentina win thriller against France | Messi’s Argentina beat France on penalties to win World Cup

Lionel Messi’s Argentina overcome France in a roller-coaster showpiece event concluded by Gonzalo Montiel’s spot kick.

Argentina won the 2022 World Cup after a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory against France in an astonishing final.

Gonzalo Montiel’s spot-kick sealed a 4-2 win in the shoot-out for the South American side at Qatar’s 89,000-capacity Lusail Stadium on Sunday after the two teams were tied at 3-3 at the end of extra time.

Montiel’s decisive effort came after France’s Kingsley Coman had an attempt saved by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Aurelien Tchouameni shot wide.

The roller-coaster contest was one of the all-time great finals and cemented Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s already glittering legacy, with the 35-year-old guiding his side to their first World Cup win since 1986 – and third overall.

He scored two goals and then another in the shoot-out to cap a dominant showing at the tournament in Qatar, with Sunday’s showing marking a record-breaking 26th World Cup appearance – a tally that will not be added to after he announced prior to the final that this would be his last World Cup.

Following the match, however, Messi dismissed a possible retirement from the national team for now.

“I want to play a few more games as a world champion. I was lucky to clinch every title in my career, this was the only one missing,” he told reporters. “I want to take this one there [to Argentina] and enjoy it with everybody else.”

Lionel Messi in action

Mbappe hat-trick in vain for reigning champions

Messi had put Argentina 1-0 ahead in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot following a strong start from coach Lionel Scaloni’s charges in the initial exchanges.

Angel Di Maria, named in the starting lineup for the first time in the knockout phase, added a second in the 36th minute following a sweeping sequence of passes to cap a dominant first-half display against a lifeless showing from France.

France, who were looking to become the first country to retain the World Cup since Brazil managed the feat in 1962, continued to struggle in the second period.

The European giants took until the 68th minute to have their first attempt at goal but sprung into life with 10 minutes to go as Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the space of two minutes to put Argentina on the back foot and take the game into extra time.

The 23-year-old’s first strike came from the penalty spot, while his second was a stunning volley following a clever interchange with substitute Marcus Thuram.

Thuram was brought on along with Randal Kolo Muani just before halftime as coach Didier Deschamps took decisive action to try and change the momentum of the game.

Mbappe’s brilliance left Argentina hanging on as normal time drew to a close, but the match seesawed again when Messi tapped in his second goal in the 108th minute to restore Argentina’s lead.

Not to be outdone, there was still time for Mbappe to seal his hat-trick with a penalty with two minutes of extra time left and ensure the contest would be decided by a shoot-out.

Mbappe’s superlative efforts ensured he finished the tournament as its top scorer, with eight goals overall – pipping Messi, his teammate at French club side Paris Saint-Germain, by one.

He is only the second man to score a World Cup final hat-trick after Geoff Hurst did so for England in 1966.

The last South American champion was Brazil when Japan and South Korea hosted the tournament in 2002.

Argentina won its previous World Cup titles in 1978 and 1986.

In Qatar, the country backed up its victory from last year’s Copa America, its first major trophy since 1993.

For France, the defeat marked the second time in the space of five World Cups that they have lost the final on penalties since they were beaten by Italy in 2006.

Resign

Elon Musk : Should Resign ?

Elon Musk polls his followers: ‘Should I step down as head of Twitter? (Resign)’

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, is pushing for a harder-driving culture at the company.

Amid ongoing controversies and concerns from advertisers, Elon Musk on Sunday asked his followers if he should step down as the head of Twitter.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk wrote.

It is unclear who might replace Musk or when he might step down, should he resign as head of the company, but Axios reported he told a Delaware judge last month he plans to reduce his time at Twitter “and find somebody else to run Twitter over time.”

Within 30 minutes of posting, the poll had received more than two million votes with the results slightly favoring Musk stepping down. At the time of publication, 56.7% of respondents voted ‘yes’ to Musk’s question.

In a separate tweet after creating the poll, Musk posted: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”

since taking over the social platform, Musk appears to have made multiple policy decisions via the results of user polls — including whether to unsuspend the account of former President Donald Trump and other users banned under the previous leadership and reinstate accounts of journalists who he said “doxxed” him by reporting on the location of his private jet.

Twitter has faced continued criticism, rising hate speech, an exodus of influential users and advertisers, and threats of international sanctions since Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition in October.

Musk and representatives for Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

Musk

After Elon Musk Ultimatum

After Elon Musk’s Ultimatum, mass exodus at TwitterHundreds of Twitter employees are estimated to be leaving the beleaguered social media company following an ultimatum from new owner Elon Musk.Synopsis: Elon Musk had spelled out an ultimatum to the tweeps that they will have to decide whether they want to stay on for ‘working long hours at high intensity or else they can take a severance package of three months’ pay.

Hundreds of Twitter employees are estimated to be leaving the company after Elon Musk mail demanded staff sign up for long hours.
As reported by Reuters, in a poll on the workplace app Blind, which verifies employees through their work email addresses and allows them to share information anonymously, 42 percent of 180 people chose the answer “Taking exit option, I’m free!”A quarter said they had chosen to stay “reluctantly,” and only 7 percent of the poll participants said that they “clicked yes to stay, I’m hardcore.”

Musk was meeting some top employees to try and convince them to stay, said one current employee and a recently departed employee who is in touch with Twitter colleagues.

While it is unclear how many employees have chosen to stay, the numbers highlight the reluctance of some staffers to remain at a company where Musk has hastened to fire half its employees including top management and is ruthlessly changing the culture to emphasize long hours and an intense pace.

Musk had spelled out an ultimatum to the tweeps that they will have to decide whether they want to stay on for “working long hours at high intensity” or else they can take a severance package of three months’ pay.

“Whatever decision you make, thank you for your efforts to make Twitter successful,” the message read.

In a message to the employees, Musk said that in order to build Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, extremely hardcore is required. “This will mean long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

In a private chat on Signal with about 50 Twitter staffers, nearly 40 said they had decided to leave, according to the former employee. And in a private Slack group for Twitter’s current and former employees, about 360 people joined a new channel titled “voluntary-layoff,” said a person with knowledge of the Slack group.

A separate poll on Blind asked staffers to estimate what percentage of people would leave Twitter based on their perception. More than half of respondents estimated at least 50% of employees would leave.

Blue hearts and salute emojis flooded Twitter and its internal chatrooms on Thursday, the second time in two weeks as Twitter employees said their goodbyes.

By 6 pm Eastern, over two dozen Twitter employees across the United States and Europe had announced their departures in public Twitter posts reviewed by Reuters, though each resignation could not be independently verified.

On Thursday evening, the version of the Twitter app used by employees began slowing down, according to one source familiar with the matter, who estimated that the public version of Twitter was at risk of breaking during the night. “If it does break, there is no one left to fix things in many areas,” the person said, who declined to be named for fear of retribution.

As the deadline approached, employees scrambled to figure out what to do. One team within Twitter decided to take the leap together and leave the company, one employee who is leaving told Reuters.

Since the takeover, it has been chaotic for two weeks for Twitter employees. And long hours have already become a norm in the company. Twitter laid off half of its workforce earlier this month shortly after Musk took control of the social media company. Then he rehired several employees noting that firing them was a mistake.

Twitter Shuts Offices

Twitter shuts offices after mass resignations. What it told employees

Synopsis: Twitter Inc announced it was temporarily closing its offices after Elon Musk issued employees an ultimatum.

Twitter Inc. on Thursday announced it was temporarily closing its offices after Elon Musk issued employees an ultimatum: Stay with the company “working long hours at high intensity” or quit with three months’ severance pay. The closure until Monday came after more workers than expected opted for the latter option, according to people familiar with the situation, causing confusion over who should still be allowed access to Twitter premises.

It’s a fresh blow for Musk, who laid off half the company’s workforce upon taking over, before having to ask some of them to return in order to build the platform he envisaged.

As Twitter’s internal communication channels filled with staff announcing their departure, Musk softened his earlier edict against working remotely. “All that is required for approval is that your manager takes responsibility for ensuring that you are making an excellent contribution,” he wrote in an email Thursday.

Topics related to the company trended in the US after the news, including #RIPTwitter, Twitter HQ, Apparently Twitter, and $44 billion, which was the price Musk paid for the social network business.

While it’s not clear how many of Twitter’s already-decimated staff took Musk up on his offer, the newest round of departures means the platform is continuing to lose workers just as it is gearing up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. one of the busiest events on Twitter that can overwhelm its systems if things go haywire.

Since taking over Twitter less than three weeks ago, Musk has booted half of the company’s full-time staff of 7,500 and an untold number of contractors responsible for content moderation and other crucial efforts. He fired top executives on his first day as Twitter’s owner, while others left voluntarily in the ensuing days. Earlier this week, he began firing a small group of engineers who took issue with him publicly or in the company’s internal Slack messaging system.

Below is the memo the company sent out to staff announcing the office closure:

Hi, Effective immediately, we are temporarily closing our office buildings and all badge access will be suspended. Offices will reopen on Monday, November 21st.

Thank you for your flexibility. Please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere.

We look forward to working with you on Twitter’s exciting future.
