Agar and Marnus Labuschagne each took two wickets as Sri Lanka reached 300/7. Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka scored the game’s first 56 and 55 points, respectively, with Kusal Mendis adding 86.
Wanindu Hasaranga gave Sri Lanka the victory with a final-over flourish of 37 off 19, including a 22-run penultimate over.
In a game that was interrupted by weather, Australia had to chase 282 in 44 overs.
The visitors gradually regained control of the game after Mahesh Theekshana dismissed David Warner in the second over due to Steve Smith (53) and Aaron Finch (44).
