The first fast bowler to serve as a captain is Jasprit Bumrah.

During India vs. England, Jasprit Bumrah corrects Mark Butcher’s statement on the fast bowling skipper.

Since Kapil Dev, Jasprit Bumrah has led India’s fast bowling unit in Test matches against England.

When Jasprit Bumrah arrived at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham wearing the India blazer for the toss, he had a tremendous experience. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team in the fifth Test against England after Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19. Bumrah is the first fast bowler to represent India in Test cricket since Kapil Dev.

But the person in charge of the toss, Mark Butcher, a former England batter who is now a member of the broadcast crew, welcomed Bumrah and said, “Congratulations! Although it doesn’t happen often, India has never had a quick bowler as the skipper.

The Indian captain swiftly corrected Butcher and added, “Well, it has happened before, Kapil Dev was the captain.”

Butcher decided to stand his ground and make the case that Kapil Dev was a complete player. All right, if you say so, Bumrah said, opting not to continue the conversation.

Early in the match, India’s Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara made some rapid runs, but their rival, the 39-year-old James Anderson, rebounded and bowled Gill for 17.
