After an argumentative exchange in the third round of Wimbledon 2022, Rafael Nadal apologizes to his opponent.
The 2008 and 2010 champions Rafael Nadal won 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to get to the fourth round for the eleventh time.
So Rafael Nadal expressed regret to Lorenzo Sonego, his defeated Wimbledon rival, following a contentious confrontation in the last stages of the match on Saturday. He quickly recovered to win the game.
However, Rafael Nadal appeared to become enraged by the commotion the Italian was causing on the court.
Before shaking hands, the two continued their lengthy argument, and he even brought Sonego to the internet to voice his displeasure.
“I have to accept that I was wrong. Avoid calling him on the phone online. I apologize for it. I made a mistake there. No issue. I understand it, Nadal stated.
“And I spoke with him about it in the locker room, where it still is. I can only confirm that I actually saw him.
And I never intended to bother him in any way. I only wanted to bring up one aspect of what I think he was doing at the time that upset me.
There were a few issues, but that is all.
Rafael Nadal has already won the French Open and Australian Open in 2022. Accomplishing the Grand Slam for the first time since Rod Laver achieved it in 1969.
